- Performing ultrasound procedures to obtain high-quality images for accurate diagnosis, including abdominal, obstetric, vascular, and cardiac imaging.
- Preparing patients for procedures by explaining the process, applying ultrasound gel, and ensuring comfort and safety.
- Operating and maintaining equipment, including calibration, troubleshooting, and ensuring a sterile imaging environment.
- Assessing image quality in real-time and making adjustments to enhance diagnostic accuracy.
- Collaborating with physicians and healthcare teams by presenting images, assisting in interpretation, and documenting findings.
- Administrative tasks, such as documenting patient history, managing imaging records, and coordinating with the medical department.
Sonographers work in a correctional setting. This role requires standing for long periods, lifting patients or equipment, and adapting to rotating shifts, days, weekends, and on-call duties.

Successful ultrasound technicians combine technical and interpersonal skills:
- Technical skills: Knowledge of anatomy, pathology, and ultrasound technology; hand-eye coordination; image analysis.
